West Middle School students come from a variety of backgrounds, that range from 2 parent working households to a guardian and homeless. Many of my students depend on their free breakfast and lunch each day. They come to school hungry and tired.
Many of the WMS kids show strength of character in everyday actions - they are Super Heroes!
They defy the world around them, get dressed and arrive to school to accomplish any possible task. WMS students create an atmosphere of determination which can lead to success. They truly are my Super Heroes each and everyday!
My Project
Binghamton's West Middle School students are learning about volcanoes and earthquakes. Our population of students struggle with this type of knowledge. These graphic novels like Max Axiom, Super Scientist, motivate students to read and ask questions.
Every child has a super scientist lingering inside!
Max Axiom takes them on an adventure to explore plate tectonics and artfully describes the various volcanoes. This "Super Scientist" introduces and explains vocabulary with a unique style that promotes learning.
This natural curiosity continues to grows with up-to-date headlines from around the globe as we explore our dynamic earth.
