My students are funny, outgoing and all-around great kids. They come from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Many are at a disadvantage in reading and writing, but that doesn't stop them from wanting to learn and become the best students they can be.
My students enjoy experiencing different cultures, experiences and life stories through literature.
These classroom sets of books can give me the opportunity to do this for my students. My students want to learn about each other and being able to choose novels that they can make a connection to the protagonist will help them feel seen and heard.
My Project
My students crave going on adventures. We do this by reading different types of texts and experiencing different cultures, times and worlds through books. My students come from diverse backgrounds, both culturally and economically. The one common experience that they can have is through literature. They all read the same book and can find the commonality in each of our lives. The use of literature in my classroom is to bring us together and to create a community. It is with this community that we can create a strong, positive classroom culture.
We will do research projects and have classroom discussions about what these novels can bring to our lives.
We will do vocabulary, research, deep-dive questions and analyzation of the novels.
