Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are enthusiastic learners who love reading books together as a class, as well as in book clubs. Each student is unique and has their own special talents, capabilities, and strengths. They thrive on being challenged and pushed to exceed expectations. As a class, we focus on encouraging one another and cheering each other to success.

Our school is situated in the heart of a typical inner city area and serves a diverse population.

They come from many different backgrounds and cultures. My reading students enjoy escaping into a good book and working in groups to discuss and create projects. They are thoughtful, compassionate and hard-working.

My Project

The Lightning Thief is a story about overcoming adversity, never giving up, and adventure. A class set of The Lightning Thief will continue to enrich my students reading skills in a way that they enjoy. Due to limited number of books in our classroom library and school, we rarely are able to all read a book together as a class-which is one of their favorite things to do. Through the use of The Lightning Thief, we will be able to dive into our mythology unit, improve reading skills, and have fun working together as a team on various projects. This book has been chosen with my students in mind. This project will help my students continue to grow with not only their reading skills, but their love of reading the written word.
