I love rewarding my students for good behavior and this time of year it is much needed. My students love earning Class Dojo points for working hard, helping others, being honest, and following directions. My students have to use their counting and recognizing numbers skills to make 10 points on Class Dojo. When they have ten, they get to pick a prize out of our prize bucket. I have several prizes such as bouncy balls, cars, spinning objects, stickers, bracelets, etc. This DonorsChoose project helped pay for several refills of these prizes!\r\nAnother new aspect of classroom behavior I added this year is letting kids \"tell\" on each others' good behavior. I was having a huge problem with frequent tattles and kids tattling on things that weren't important. So I decided to flip it around and let them tell me when someone is helping another kid, sharing, being kind, etc. My students love to find other kids' making good choices! It has increased my students with good behavior and decreased the amount of bad tattles. They've enjoyed being able to see and interact with what we're learning instead of just reading about it. It's helped them better understand the content and stay more engaged during lessons.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll continue using these materials to connect science with writing and math by tracking changes, writing about observations, and comparing results. It also helps them move their supplies from one place to another if necessary to work in different groups around the classroom.
