My students are full of energy and a natural curiosity to learn about the world around them. Every day, my students walk into the room expecting to be challenged and learn something new each day.
I teach a classroom full of gifted and talented third graders and I want to provide them with opportunities to research and explore their curiosities through art, literacy, technology, math and science.
They all love to solve problems and investigate topics that they don't know about. They show up with eager, open minds, curious about math and science relationships that exit in the world. They just need the tools to help make that happen.
My students need more exposure and experiences in the realm of science. What better way to do that than butterfly nurseries and a living organism science center.
I have energetic students that love to learn.
I want to give my students hands on experiences that will give them opportunities to make connections. "Nothing becomes real 'til it is experienced." - John Keats
We are going to start our thematic unit on insects and plants when we come back from spring break. I want my students to be able to connect what we learn to an experience. I want them to learn about the life cycle of the butterfly as well as be able to witness it first hand. Students will use the butterfly nursery to watch the caterpillars create their cocoons. Students will be able to observe the birth of the butterflies. Students will be able to observe the gecko lizard it the habitat as we study reptiles. Students will set up aquarium tanks for the fish supplies and snails. The more experiences they can be involved in, the more they will be able to learn and build upon not to mention make connections to in the future. They love science and I want to be able to incorporate a science research center during our literacy rotations specifically on insects to increase their exposure specifically on insects to increase their exposure to the content.
The donations for this project will impact my students so incredibly much.
They will get to see nature in action. It will open their minds and hearts to the love of learning. My students will walk away with an experience to share with their family and friends, retelling and passing the information on that they have learned, making them experts.
