My Students
I am a speech language pathologist that evaluates children's speech and language needs. My students are from low social economic backgrounds who are at high risk for language and other developmental delays. I work with students and their families as they seek support for a modality of their developmental needs due to possible developmental delays. I work closely with my students' families from the beginning of our evaluation process all the way through to the end, where a team of therapists (speech therapist, school psychologist, occupational therapist) provide placement programs based on each students' developmental needs.
I feel humbled as I get to be part of each child and their family's journey.
Although, the time spent with each family is limited to a short span during our evaluation, I cherish the process in connecting with each student and their families. With COVID-19, our families are compounded with a myriad of challenges, especially with obtaining access to materials and technology that would further support the assessment process.
I hope to raise funds to help eliminate these barriers so that our families could access safe and equitable services during this unprecedented time.
My Project
Our assessment team is looking to turn paper documents into digital files during school closure to help support families obtain safe and equitable access to services offered through our program. Adobe will help us create digital signatures in addition to creating other digital files that will allow us to send families important documents where they could sign electronically. This will eliminate barriers such as delays in the evaluation process due to mail for printed copies. In addition, families could obtain and access important documents from the comfort of their home. This will save families a trip to our school to pick up or drop off important documents that are needed to initiate the evaluation process. I'm also requesting other electronic materials such as teacher pay teachers gift cards to purchase digital materials for distance learning therapy.
