My Students

All Berkeley Unified School District elementary schools provide a rich variety of visual and performing arts experiences for Kindergarten through fifth grade students. Students continue to develop artistic skills in middle school arts electives and after school classes. The High School offers a broad range of arts classes including Ceramics, Photography, Computer Art, AP Studio Art, Afro-Haitian Dance, Modern Dance, Drama, Advanced Theater Projects, Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Guitar, Chorus and AP Music Theory. One year of high school visual or performing arts is required by the UC and CSU systems.

After an extended period of sampling among violins, violas, flutes, clarinets, trumpets, trombones, percussion, ukulele, guitar and chorus, fourth graders choose chorus or the instrument they wish to study.

Fifth graders continue with chorus or the instrument studied in fourth grade. Classes are held twice a week during the school day. Both grades perform at school concerts. Fifth graders have the opportunity of participating in the Performing Arts Showcase in March and attending the Jumpstart Retreat for fifth graders at Cazadero Performing Arts Camp in May.

Our students come from diverse backgrounds with about half qualifying for free lunch programs. We also have special needs students in every class.

My Project

This program will prepare me to achieve success for my students because central to school success is effective leadership. I would like to take an online course to help prepare me for CPACE exam and moving into administration. This role will allow me to address equity issues that are vital to our educational systems. I will also love to help support new teachers and their visions. Thank you for helping me cultivate and support powerful instruction for all students as well as ongoing school improvement measures. The California Professional Standards for Education leaders states that a robust partnership must exist between schools and stakeholders, thank you for considering my request.
