My Project

Developing number sense is an important concept for elementary students. By developing number sense, they can manipulate numbers by putting them together differently. When students have number sense they are able to easily put together numbers without having to count on their finger or use other manipulative such as counters or their fingers. This project and Part 2 will provide additional instructional resources for students to use with these actives and lessons.

Access to high-quality instruction and activities is essential to helping students develop number sense.

Number sense means the ability to recognize how different numbers can be combined. An example of this is when given the problem 5 + 7; they can see that 5+5 = 10 and 10 + 2 is 12, so 5 + 7 = 12. It could also mean that 13 + 4 is the same as 10 + 3 + 4 or 10 + 7.

The Ready Set Math Addition and Subtraction resources in this project have been researched and aligned with the training that I have taken, which will allow for seamless implementation. The activities will also engage students as they get 20-25 minutes of targeted instruction.
