My Students

Musician Brandt Paul said: "Don't tell me the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon." As a dedicated educator that is precisely what I aim to do. Our school is in a low-income area and it is my privilege to teach all these children. From high performing students, special needs students, homeless students, and bilingual students; each and every one of them is imaginative and reach for the stars. There is only one thing that brings them down too often.

These children are told too often the word "can't" but that word does not exist in my room.

There is always another way to do something but never a "can't."

At home, by the community and even educators use this word which immediately puts an end to the greatness that could be. In a classroom, nothing should limit a child from being the best they can be, specifically in an art room. A child should be able to imagine and create infinitely.

My Project

I love teaching art to students. In my classroom we learn about the world around us in unusual ways by looking at culture through the arts. From painted, clay, drawing, collage and more we create, learn and grow.

However, some of my students are limited by their fine motor skills.

I see all students from kindergarten through 5th grade at my amazing school. I also have the privilege of working with students with disabilities. Many of these students need help with fine motor skills like holding a pencil and using scissors. This unfortunately limits them and their ability to create artwork in my room. I never want my students to feel they cannot do something. With these supplies, their possibilities will exponentially increase. Projects will no longer be impossible and feelings of defeat and the feeling of being left out will not exist.

I hope you will help my students reach their fullest artistic potential.
