This will be my first year teaching fifth grade at our school. This particular school was built to fill the diverse needs in this area. The school opened in the fall of 2015 and is currently in its third year. Although being at a new campus is exciting, it comes with its share of growing pains. For one, there is a lack of supplies due to funding. Many of our students have been transferred from different areas around the district; therefore, they are an ethnically diverse population who have a wide range of income levels. Many are military families, non-English speaking families or families who have wonderful students with special needs.
Put all of this together and you get a school of extraordinary students who, at times, struggle academically because of the circumstances they face daily.
Here, we are all working together to create change and make this year a successful one for all of our precious students.
Many 21st century learners students often struggle completing classroom activities while in traditional seating. This project is in hope to give my students a variety of options on where and how they would like to sit during independent reading and work time.
With each of these seating options, the students will be able to pick what suits them best and how they can learn in the most effective way!
An active chair is designed with them in mind.
Each student will have the opportunity to choose from one of the many seating types that will best fit their personality and style.
