I am a behavioral health counselor who works with children who have IEPs. Many of my students struggle with Autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and learning disabilities. It takes time to build rapport with students while discussing their struggles in school. Engaging puzzles, fidgets, and games help students feel more at ease during counseling sessions and encourage them to share more freely. Many of the fidget items can also be used as coping skills to help children self-regulate and return to their classroom work.
The goal of these enrichment activities is to help special education students feel quickly at ease in counseling sessions, so I can best support their mental health needs.
