My Students

I teach 90 energetic 5th graders in a rural Mississippi classroom. My school is a Title I school in a low-income area. My students love to succeed and they work hard every day to show growth in my math class. They have various academic levels and socioeconomic statuses, but they all work hard in the classroom. They learn best when they are actively engaged in a lesson. My students love to learn, they take pride in their work, and they love positive recognition.

My Project

Active engagement is the key to success in the classroom. Students need to participate in a lesson to reach high levels of learning. Dry erase boards and markers will allow all students to work on problems and quickly show their work to the teacher and/or the entire class. This will ensure that all students understand the skill we are working on and not just the students who are called on. Students love using dry erase markers and boards, and they be more excited about completing math problems if they are able to use dry erase markers and boards each day in class. This will also help me provide immediate feedback if they hold up their boards and show me their work.
