Active At-Home Learning

Help me give my students a means to participate in class without being in class. Students will be able to follow me around the room as I teach normally and can be active participants in the lesson.

My Students

I teach junior high French dual immersion. Being able to be in the classroom and interact with me and the other students is essential in learning French and the materials. These students have been together in the program since they were in 1st grade and know each other extremely well. We work a lot in partners and small groups to get the students to speak French.

With Covid, many of my students have had to stay home at different parts of the year.

At home learning with dual immersion is not as simple as sending home a packet. I need my students to be actively participating with me and with others. I am constantly on my feet and getting students engaged and having fun with my students. I have tried to engage students online, but it is hard to move my personal iPad on a tripod around the room with me.

My Project

Many students have to quarantine during Covid and are left at home to learn. In my class, active participation is key in learning French. Students need to engage with one another and with me to learn new vocabulary and the subject at hand.

The Chrome OS system makes it very easy to create videos and links for students at home to join the classroom and actively participate with other students.

With the tablet and a swivel tracker, students at home can follow me as I go around the room as I naturally teach. They can follow as we do the date, read what is on the board, see the maps or posters I am pointing to, and can participate in groups.
