Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Sylvandale Middle School is a Title 1 school Located in southeat San Jose, CA. We serve approximately 760 7th and 8th grade students. 75% of our student population is Latino and 20 % Asian (primarily Vietnamese). We have a strong elective department where students have the opportunity to choose one of four electives (art, music, coooking, or computer science) to focus on for the entire school year.
I would like to order canvases for my 8th grade advanced art class.
They all have highly developed skills and are committed to their creative process. They are very excited to experiment with different materials and would be thrilled to have the opportunity to create a painting on a real canvas!
My Project
The young artists in my class are SO excited by the possibility of creating a painting on canvas. I have a very low budget for materials and can only afford to stock my classroom with the very basic materials. My hard working and talented students will gain experience working with these high quality materials.
With these materials students will have the opportunity to create a painting of their choosing.
They will research and plan for their work of art online and will explore how other artist use acrylic paint. They will submit a detailed sketch of their idea before their final design is painted on the canvas.
