Accidents Happen: Spare Clothes to Keep Students Learning

Help me give my students spare clothes to help student self esteem and to curb disruption of learning.

This project is fully funded

My Students

Our school is on the border of northeast Tacoma and Puyallup. Eighty-five percent of students receive free or reduced-price lunches. Our school embraces cultures with high African American and Hispanic populations.

The program that you are donating to is called the peer inclusion preschool.

We are an 8:8 model which means 8 students ages 3-5 have identified disabilities and 8 students are peers from neighborhood schools. We provide early intervention to an AM and a PM class. These students have a variety of disabilities such as autism, visual impairments, developmental delays, speech impairments, and others.

These students come for early intervention for learning their ABCs and 123's, making friends, safe, calming strategies, how to use the toilet, and much more. One of the great things about this program is that these wonderful kids learn from each other and gain empathy, caring, understanding for those who are different. This and many other reasons are why I am proud of my school, my program, and my class.

My Project

Accidents happen right? Imagine you are a child and you're playing an intense game at recess letting your imagination take you to a far away place. You're just about to get away from the dragon but you slip and fall breaking your imagination and realizing you're covered in mud. You can't go back to class because you're covered in mud. Your only saving grace is the hope that the nurses office has a spare change of clothes. Our school has been depleted of spare clothes. When a child has an accident, their parents are usually called, hopefully, to bring a spare change of clothes. Unfortunately, our parents are either working during these hours or sleeping before they work night shifts.

There are some times when our students have to sit in wet clothes for hours before they can get a spare change of clothes.

Because of this, they are missing out on essential instruction. If you donate to this project, not only are you helping curb our student's embarrassment, you are helping our students get back to class faster and engage back into learning.
