My students need the Kindle Fire Tablets to grow our reading levels and to access unlimited reading resources through the internet!

My students are 2nd graders and 3rd graders with learning disabilities. I have been fortunate to spend two school years learning and working with these extraordinary young women and men. Every year our students work hard to achieve their IEP goals and master the grade level standards.
My mission is to create a classroom culture and design where my students' identities are affirmed, through social-emotional learning and access to 21st-century technology.
It has been truly inspirational to see the hard work that they have put in through 1st grade. For our students to continue growing I need to provide a welcoming and abundantly resourced environment. My students not only need this from me, but they deserve to have a first-rate classroom and learning experience! Help me build the classroom our students deserve and their future success demands! Thank you!
Throughout my time in the classroom, my students and I have worked on ways to improve the efficiency of our work while ensuring that our classroom is a hub for access to 21st-century technology and learning. In a classroom community circle, some of my students questioned the sustainability of the amount of paper we use. As the conversation unfolded it became evident that there were several ways we could work to reduce our carbon footprint.
My students are heavily invested in their future and access to 21st-century technology not only intrigues their curiosity but exposes them to the essential skills of the economy they will inherit.
Presently, I print worksheets and reading materials that are used daily for guided reading and independent reading. Not only is this environmentally unsustainable as I print hundreds of sheets a month, it doesn't give my students the exposure to screen reading that will be necessary for success on computerized assessments. Having E-Readers for guided reading will reduce my prep-time, allowing me to focus on data internalization and planning for my students' individual needs. My students will have access to thousands of books and reading materials at the push of a button.
I will be able to highlight text features that my students will need to focus on for the lesson and they will be able to annotate on the fly. This will give me real-time feedback empowering me to make instant teaching decisions that are data-informed. Inevitably it makes learning more fun and effective for us, it will also allow us to achieve our classroom community goal of reducing our paper usage by 50%. My students have made an environmentally responsible goal that will prepare them for their future! Let's help them accomplish this!
