Accelerated Reader In The Science Room

My students need 70 copies of Monster by Walter Dean Myers and 70 copies of Hamlet (Barnes & Noble Shakespeare Series).

My Students

My students are lovely multicultural students who apply this quote, "Today a reader tomorrow a leader" to their daily dreams. Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? My students are eager to read.

Let me tell you how ironic this is.

The boys who used to sit in the class and disturb the other students while they were reading are now, literally fighting over the one or two books that I have left. 70 "Hamlet" and 70 "Monster" books will allow each student to get the opportunity to read each book.

My Project

This project will allow my male students the opportunity to experience the author's realistic fiction. Moreover, I believe this will stimulate an interest and love of reading within students. Some of my students think that they have a monopoly on hard times. They would benefit to know that there are people like themselves, who have fears - and learn that it is okay to be afraid. I would like them to read these books and recount the details in a book review - thus, explaining what they found similar to the character's life in the story compared with their own life struggles and hardships.

I believe this is a good way to assist the students, not only to pass their Science and English Language Arts Examinations that the New York State requires - but it will allow them to see life - as many challenges - that they too can overcome - while continuing to fulfill life's expectations.

Thank you very much for giving.
