My Students

Our school population is diverse, with a large number of Native American students. While part of the public school system in our town, our school is located on a Native American Reservation. We are a Title 1 school and all students receive free breakfast, and majority receive free lunch as well.

Our school is a Compassionate School with an emphasis on calming strategies (breathing, yoga, Rainbow Dance, tapping, therapy dogs, etc.).

Many of our students have generational trauma backgrounds and behavioral issues. The school and classroom environments, as well as the staff/student relationships, have a positive impact on students. While challenging in many ways, teaching here is extremely rewarding as you see what a difference you can make in a child's life!

My Project

Visual Arts foster student creativity and self-expression. The materials requested in this project will help provide my kindergarten students with art materials to enhance their learning experience.

Kindergartners express themselves easily through drawing, painting and writing.

We have been doing online learning since school began in September. My students would greatly benefit from having art supplies at home. This would allow them different ways of showing story comprehension, retelling, writing and self-expression during literacy and social-emotional learning lessons. The pattern block stickers will give students hands-on experiences with math patterning and geometry lessons. All of these materials will help with student engagement and fine motor skills - an essential component of kindergarten learning.
