This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students attend a small Title I school in downtown Orlando, Florida where our goal is academic excellence for each and every one of our students.
With the poverty rate at our school being 83%, many of my children come from very low socioeconomic backgrounds.
100% of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and snack and we frequently send home additional snacks over long weekends and breaks.
Many of my students want to learn and are trying to actively participate in their education, but can be distracted by behaviors within the school and classroom.
My Project
In my classroom, we struggle with staying focused on Academics, using Behaviors that are conducive to learning, and practicing Citizenship to others.
These classroom incentives will help to keep my class on track.
I have asked for a blend of small and large rewards so I can reward them every day for the little things and encourage them to work hard for the bigger items.
The small items like scented erasers and mini lollipops will be for day-to-day activities like walking quieting in the hall and being on task. Larger items like the Smencils and bags of Takis will be for going above and beyond with citizenship and achieving academic success.
