My Students

My school serves PreK-5th-grade inner city students. Teachers collaborate to effectively plan instruction across the grades. We are focused on incorporating STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, arts, math) into the curriculum.

In addition, my school is creating classrooms in which students are working hands-on in the classroom and learning through doing project-based learning, as well as sharing their ideas, solutions, and strategies.

This will help to create, lifelong learners that think about solutions and make connections across the curriculum.

My students are four-year-olds who are extremely excited to learn new things about the world around them. My students are in their first year of elementary school, and for some, it is their first official school experience. It has been a year filled with exploration and discovery.

I am excited to have the opportunity for my students with teacher support, and guidance to use technology, to share their learning. My students love taking photos with the class iPad. I can already see my students busy building structures, using the maker space to create things, and with teacher support using these photos to create books.

My Project

The requested Osmo Genius Kits will provide my students with new technology and allow them to learn a new way to use the class iPads. The Osmo kits will give students practice building words, learning alphabetical order, and problem solving.

These materials will add to the Maker space in the classroom by providing a variety of tools such as sticks they can build with, and use to create or build within the block area or at a table.

In addition, the Makedo toolkit for creating things out of boxes will allow students to work with friends, and plan and construct their creations. I look forward to seeing all of my students' wonderful creations, and hearing them share them with the class.

I am also very excited about the possibility of getting new books for the classroom to add to the science center. I am a huge fan of wordless picture books and look forward to sharing the book Shadows with my students. It will allow students to see how important illustrations are in a story and illustrate further how they can create a story through illustrations.
