My students are a diverse group of children. They come from many different countries and speak many different languages. Many of my students have come from refugee camps where they (and some of their parents) were born and raised. Many did not have access to organized school/education. For some, my school is their first experience in a brick and mortar school setting.
Many of my students live busy lives - they attend school all-day, Monday thru Friday, they attend daycare in the evenings and then attend dugsiga (religion school) on the weekends.
Many of my students have an incredibly hard time sitting still. They have become so conditioned to constant movement, constant noise and constant distractions.
Using Zafu Cushions for Mindful Meditation will allow my students to be more comfortable while learning about and practicing the skill of sitting and "being".
I want my students to experience calm. I want my students to experience stillness. I want my students to be present in their bodies, in the moment. I am hoping that providing a comfortable and welcoming space will allow them to feel safe, to appreciate the physical and mental benefits of being Mindful as well as creating a positive association with a powerful lifelong skill.
