The school at which I work has devised a student-centric program that specifically entrenches youthful determination for finding ways to help organizations within the community. The combination of social responsibility and the expression of gratitude to those that impact our daily lives has empowered students to unify in improving the world in which they live.
Our school has limited resources available to advance our academic programs or initiatives.
Our community also lacks the social wealth to help make available essential components to student success. Our students come from widely varying socioeconomic levels with more than not living from paycheck to paycheck. This makes the ability to fulfill all necessary aspects of a well-rounded education especially difficult.
My Project
Providing students the opportunity to enact their morally-centered writings to teach their youthful counterparts life lessons possesses a powerful means through which to transmit important social-emotional lessons. This will establish my students as behavioral role models and encourage them to voice their experiences with life lessons on subjects such as bullying, gossiping, and a myriad of other possibilities.
These various puppet sets will allow for a wide array of fictional depictions based on several genres of reading.
The Big Mouth Animal set will provide an avenue to portray fables. The Community Helpers set allows my students to alleviate some of the stressors common to younger children such as doctor's visits, and it allows for discussion about situations such as fire safety. The Let's Talk and Multicultural puppet sets round out the available storylines. With my classroom literacy goal being to encourage my students to be well-rounded leaders in the school, this allows an engaging means of self-expression.
