My Students

"I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." -Confucius

My students love science, and they especially love the hands-on experiments, projects, and dissection labs.

My favorite part of teaching is seeing their eyes light up when they make a discovery during a lab.

I teach 8th-grade science in a middle school in Missouri. My students are both energetic and inquisitive learners. They enjoy coming to school, researching new science concepts, and conducting hands-on experiments.

Over half of my students live in poverty and don’t bring the necessary supplies to the classroom like pencils and notebooks. My students were also affected when an EF5 tornado destroyed a third of our town when they were young. Many of my students lost their homes or family members. They grew up experiencing loss at a young age.

My Project

A class subscription to Science World will make a difference in student learning! Science World has many engaging and interesting articles, that inform students about the innovations taking place in the world around them.

These magazines are interesting, but they also help prepare students for the standardized testing in Communication Arts and Science that they will be taking in the Spring.

During these tests, students are required to read articles and pick out important and relevant information to support their answers to the questions being asked.

Science World is a fantastic and engaging resource for students to relate real-world events to scientific concepts.

It's packed with vivid photos and colorful graphics designed to grab student attention. I currently have a subscription of Science World magazine that is about to run out. My students always get excited when I pass these magazines out. I love that Science World is available in both a physical copy, and a digital copy. With Covid-19 restrictions, I wasn't sure we would be able to use the magazines, but then I discovered the digital version of the magazine. My students enter and code, and have access to everything available in the print issue, plus some extra videos and simulations. I've discovered I like the digital resource even more than the print one.

These magazines are informative, educational, and interesting, and would increase learning and curiosity in my classroom.
