A Welcoming and Sanitary Wellness Retreat

My Project

Thoughtful design, soothing aesthetics, and maintainable resources are imperative to a classroom--especially in a wellness room meant to prepare escalated students to return to class ready to learn. We hope to enhance the experience by updating our space into an inclusive, comfortable, thoughtfully designed space that will be easily maintained and offer a refuge from the other stresses students may be experiencing.

Students love to snuggle into our small tent and pillow pile as a sensory escape and emotionally safe fortress.

In an effort to maintain their favorite spots, we need new rugs, throw pillows and a bigger hideaway for our older students. We're looking for washable materials and items we can maintain over time.

In addition to updating our favorite spaces, a new storage system would greatly influence the availability of my classroom resources. My classroom is an emotionally supportive environment that caters to students of all backgrounds and abilities. We are also a title I school with a high percentage of our district's students with additional needs so our room has to provide items for a broad range of interests. So, I've asked for a couple of baskets to keep activities accessible and easily reached.

While we love our Wellness Room and get much use out of it, we needed the items quickly, and on a budget. Started in 2020 during the stress of the covid pandemic, our school recognized our students' needs for emotional stability. We were able to make a peaceful escape from the chaos outside by quickly sourcing items to create a wellness room. Please help us update it to be maintainable, accessible, inclusive, and continue to be a safe haven.
