Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am first year teacher at where I was an intern. Fortunately, I already know 4 out of 5 of my students that will be in my K-2 self-contained Exceptional Student Education classroom! My students have intellectual disabilities and learn best using aural, visual, and kinesthetic means.

I love our classroom because it is full of different personalities and each student has their own learning style.

I love creating lessons that keep each learner engaged. The students enjoy sensory play, story time, and our weekly Three Pose Thursday Yoga sessions.

My Project

Learning to Get Along and the Books All About Me will not only build social skills but also self-esteem. These would be a great addition to the classroom. Learning to Get Along will be presented each day during social skills along with an activity such a a craft. The journals will be used at the end of the week as a reflection of our gifts and accomplishments.

The social stories will help students understand different scenarios and appropriate behaviors.

Along with social skills is building confidence and exploring the positive aspects of ourselves. I believe that the journals will help students recognize their positive attributes and build confidence which will aid in social skills as well.
