Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students have typically never attended a live theater performance. This year the Steppenwolf Theatre is performing The Bluest Eye and forty of my high school students have voluntarily read the book with hopes of attending the performance. My students are studying psychology and jumped at the chance to read a book that I recommended and introduced in class. The students typically come from low-income homes and have overcome many obstacles to successfully make it this far in their education. They are close to graduation and I would love to offer this experience in their city to them. I have attended a reading of the script and believe the play will benefit the students in many ways. They will see a live performance and acquire a better understanding of the work of Toni Morrison. An opportunity like this affects students in ways untold. Thank you for considering our project.
