Who is Frida Kahlo? Why is Picasso important? Do different color squares really make a painting? These important questions, and others will be answered with YOUR help. I am a third grade teacher who tries to bring the world's multicultural art to her students. I would like to take my students to San Francisco's museum of modern art. Admission is free to the students but I need money for the bus and entrance fees for the parent chaperons. My class consists of 20 low/med income 8 year olds. Often this is their first introduction to the world of art. For many of my students downtown San Francisco is a world away, and this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity. I am a teacher at John F. Kennedy Elementary school, Daly City. Since I teach art weekly, students will learn about these artists in depth. I read them biographies of the artists, and then the students do an "inspired" art project. This field trip is very important to my year, as it shows my students that art can be legitimate, beautiful, strange and maybe even important. No one can explain how thick paint can be put on, or how large a canvas can be. Please help my students see the REAL deal.
