My students need donations to attend a once in a lifetime trip to Costa Rica in July 2013.
Experiences are what shape our future. As a teacher, I wish to improve and enhance the lives of my students as much as possible. This summer, a group of teachers and I will take 10 fifth grade students on a once in a lifetime, science based field trip to Costa Rica.
I work at a title I, low-income school in a rural community.
Most of my students have never been out of their community or out of the city. These students are hard working and dedicated. They come from excellent families that have limited resources which, in turn, limits their exposure to the world around them. These students have a thirst for knowledge and will thrive on the ability to share that knowledge with their friends and families.
The experiences they will be exposed to while traveling will serve as life-long lessons and will, undoubtedly, change their perspective on themselves and their place in the world. In Costa Rica, we will visit INBioparque (an Ecosystem exhibit), the Poas Volcano, La Fortuna Waterfall, the Santa Elena Cloud Forest and many more amazing sites. We will, also, visit a local school and plant a tree in Monteverde. This will be a trip to remember! I am requesting assistance with partial funding of their trip. Parents are contributing to the cost of the trip, and in addition, we would like to help each student with the cost of the trip through DonorsChoose.org. This will help alleviate some of the costs to the students and their parents. We are working hard to fund raise throughout the community for the remaining balance of the students' trip.
In Costa Rica, our students will witness new cultures first hand and experience history typically only learned in a textbook.
While students will remember some material just long enough to succeed on a test, the memories of this trip will remain with them forever.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our trip. We are working hard to fund raise throughout our community to relieve the burden on the parents. Thank you for making a difference!
