This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from various backgrounds. Some come from shelters, large families, or foster care. Our kindergarten grade is secluded in a separate building, away from needed resources. For many, this will be the first time they are exposed to a school environment. They will have to learn many new routines alongside academics they have never been exposed to. Our classroom has to be a place where they feel comfortable and look forward to coming every day. Some of my students have been exposed to trauma early in their lives; therefore, affecting their social-emotional growth. Our class not only becomes a place of academic learning but a secure place to grow their social-emotional experiences.

My Project

Have you ever wanted to be seen? To be heard? A kidney shaped table will enable us to meet in a small group with the neediest of my students. To be able to be on eye level with them within the same space and meet their needs. Students will be able to meet with me in small group and take part of group work but targeted to each of their needs. When you have to structure and differentiate lessons to meet everyone’s needs being able to sit up close to each one at the same time will help me make sure every student isn’t left behind.
