My Project

The items that are being requested will be used to create a new sensory space for the students within our building. As each student is different, their sensory needs are as well. We are looking to create a place where we can meet as many of these needs as possible, which is why there is a large variety of items being requested. For example, the vibrating and or weighted items help calm students, the peanut ball allows students to bounce or roll on it, which can fullfill a need for sensory-seeking input. Some of the play items provide a distraction when they are perseverating on something.

We are finding that more and more students are in need of a place to meet their sensory needs.In creating this space our goal is it will help our students, should they become dysregulated, have a safe space they can enter and have their sensory needs met in order to return to the classroom ready to learn.

Among our students who struggle with his building with sensory regulation this school will house our "Intensive Learning School", which is for students with Autism. Many of these students are nonverbal so a space for them with a variety of items they can safely explore that would assist in calming them would be an absolute dream.
