My students need the opportunity to see their hard work in a published form, with the book that we collectively worked on, to be available to them, no matter the cost.

My Students
My students come to school every day ready to learn. I teach in the extended resource room for students with moderate to severe disabilities in a Title 1 school. 100% of our students receive free and reduced meals for breakfast and lunch.
My students are greeted off of the buses in the morning, with a high five and a hug.
They come to school and know that they will be safe, loved and will learn something new.
Even though the majority of my students come from single parent, low-income families, they are well-mannered. My students give 100% in everything that they do and they do anything asked of them.
My Project
My students have worked hard writing a book, with the kit provided by Student Treasures. The title of the story is Why I Was Late To School, by Mrs. C's Crew. Each student was asked to present an idea for the title of the story, write their own story and draw a picture to accompany their story. The class, as a whole, voted for the best title and we brainstormed as a class, ideas of where the story would go.
My students have really jumped into this project, been creative and collaborative working on this group effort.
The students seem so excited and are asking questions about the book. What's next? Where are you sending our stories and do we each get a book?
Giving my students the opportunity to not only each have a copy of the book that we, as a class, have created, but to also share their creativity and academic journey with their parents. I want my students' time in my classroom to be a lasting memory. As a first year teacher, I strive to provide my students the same opportunities as their same-age, grade level peers.
