My Students

I teach an extremely talented and unique group of fifth graders in Kentucky. They are both advanced program students and regular program students, and several of my students are from different countries.

My students are eager and excited.

They are creative and want to learn more. They are eager and seek knowledge on a daily basis.

We are considered a school with moderate poverty, but we do not qualify for additional state and government funds. Each of our at-risk students needs the opportunity to have the same resources as students at other schools.

My Project

Fifth graders in the state of Kentucky are required to learn about United States history. It is hard to get them excited about an really understand what they call 'old news'. Hands-on, real-life experiences are necessary to help them understand history.

We learn from history.

We grow from it. History is a part of the social sciences where we study the past. We learn from all the achievements , the mistakes and the events that helped evolve the human civilizations; they helped to shape up modern human societies.

A trip to Locust Grove will help them better understand our early settlers to this area, the struggles, the achievements and the lives of the people who lived here during the 1800s. A trip to the Frazier History Museum will help them understand the huge undertaking that the Lewis and Clark Expedition was, what information was gathered, the cultures of people they encountered and the animals species found along the way.

This dual field trip to both locations will have them 'Step Back in Time' and better understand and appreciate history!
