Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a Title I school with 100% of our students qualifying for free and reduced-price lunch.
My classroom consists of twenty-two second-graders who are English Language Learners.
The majority of my students do not speak English at home, they speak Cantonese, Spanish, Amharic and Hindi. Our school is the only place where they speak and practice English.
I strive for my students to have the best learning environment that they can have. Most of my students live in a low socioeconomic home. I want them to have the best experience they can so that they can grow up and be whatever they set their minds to. By providing my students with the right support, resources, and opportunities, they can experience success!
My Project
This project is for Blue-Bot Bluetooth Floor Robots, TacTile Readers, Docking station and charger. My students will be able to use the Blue-Bot Robots manually by pressing buttons on the back to program Blue-Bot just like Bee-Bot. As my students engage with Blue-Bot Robots they may also choose to use the TacTile Reader. A hands-on programming device to control Blue-Bots with tiles representing each Blue-Bot command. This tool will provide a visual sequence of the code they are creating especially for my non-english speaking students and students with learning disabilities. Ultimately my students will transition to using the Ipad for bluetooth communication to control Blue-Bots remotely. They will learn to use the Blue-Bot app on an Ipad to program the Blue-Bot Robots. The Docking station will charge them as well as the USB charger.
Blue-Bot Bluetooth Floor Robots will bring science, technology, engineering, art and math into the classroom while providing a hands-on tactile way to explore programming and remote control.
These Blue-Bot robots will be a great tool to teach my students sequencing, estimation, problem-solving. They will learn how to work in small groups, design, problem solve and collaborate. My students will experiment, explore, design, build and explain what they have learned. They will be inspired to enter even more creative and complex command sequences. The activities will bring learning to life.
As English language learners my students learn best when given opportunity to engage all the senses- tactile, audio and visual for more exploration of the language. Today's students are tomorrows leaders. STEAM-relate careers are the future.
