Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

Our students are wonderful and creative. They love to learn and they inspire us to provide them with the best opportunities possible. Many of our students come from all over the city just to attend our school. They represent the diversity of our city ethnically, linguistically, and socioeconomically. They also represent a wide range of academic abilities from special education to English language learners to gifted students and we are challenged with meeting all of their learning and emotional needs.

Through the resources provided in this project we will be able to create a safe space that addresses the social and emotional needs of our students. With many of our students coming from disadvantaged backgrounds, they often have obstacles that can interfere with their education. By helping students overcome these barriers we assure that they are able to focus more on their future education and careers.

In Their Own Words

We just really want to make the school a place for everyone to feel comfortable. Many of our classmates come from all over the city and some of the problems that they have to deal with are difficult. The space will let school counselors have group and individual therapy sessions.

The first thing was we recognized the need for a space where we can come together to talk about the other things that are going on in our lives. We took charge talking to the school administration about the need for a space and gathered fellow students to support the cause.

This project will help everyone in our school. So many of our classmates need a space to discuss things that are bigger than school; unstable homes, the death of family members, and violent neighborhoods are just a few of the issues. This project will make sure we have an area where they can overcome those issues with school counselors.
