Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When students enter my classroom, I want them to know that they are loved and cared for.
Having a designated space in the classroom to gather together is essential now more than ever.
However, gathering on the carpet can be a tricky task due to COVID-19 restrictions. I teach at a Title I school where many of our students live in poverty every day. Despite the odds, my students are willing and eager to learn when they enter the classroom. My classroom is a special education inclusion classroom with a high population of English Language Learners. All things considered, my students genuinely love learning and interacting with one another. Gathering on the carpet together is one of their favorite parts about our school day.
My Project
Due to COVID-19 regulations, gathering an entire class together on the carpet is a difficult task. We need as much carpet space as possible to be able to maintain appropriate distance. However, I strongly believe in having a designated space in the classroom to gather for class meetings and learning. Morning meetings are held daily in our classroom. During this time, we focus on building relationships with one another as well as social-emotional learning and development. Having a carpet space to gather on safely is essential now more than ever. Students are feeling the negative effects of this pandemic, and their social-emotional learning needs more attention than ever before.
