Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a unique bunch, full of life, energy and an eagerness to learn! They have the opportunity to spend time daily in the Resource Room, gaining the specific skills, through specialized instruction, they need to be successful in the general education classroom. They also find the Resource Room as a safe haven; a place where they can come to decompress and refocus on daily tasks.
Not only do most of my students come from a low-income community and families, they are challenged daily with various exceptionalities, which differs from student to student.
My students make up multiple learning groups, varying in age and learning abilities. Many students are able to focus more on an assignment when they are able to have their own space and access to various parts of the room. They enjoy being able to sit in spaces other than standard chairs, many of which are too tall for most students to sit comfortably at the tables.
My Project
My students are an energetic group of learners with various exceptionalities. Most of the time, it is difficult for my students to sit for a period of time in a standard chair to complete tasks or work in learning centers. Having access to Soft Seats will allow the students to sit in a place that allows movement in a space of their own around the classroom. The Soft Seats will also give my students the flexibility to complete their work in a place they are more comfortable and less restricted with other students in their learning group.
My students often come to my Resource Room when they need a social-emotional break from the goings on in the general education setting.
Some students often need that emotional break while in the Resource Room as well. Having access to the Balance Balls will provide my students with a safe place to exert their energy and emotions. Once they have exhausted their energy, they are able to regain their focus and discuss their emotions in a calm manner.
