My four and five year old students are inquisitive, energetic learners with hearts full of love. They are naturally curious about their world and spend every second of their school day desiring to learn more. Their knowledge grows through interactive read-alouds, pretend play, and daily social interactions.
These littlest ones who are just beginning their school career deserve the best and most engaging materials to allow their love of learning to flourish!
My students in our Title I primary school come from various backgrounds and bring many unique qualities to the classroom. They face challenges inside and outside of school. My goal is to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment to provide them with a solid foundation of learning.
My Project
This new rug will create a space for up to 20 children to sit comfortably in their own area while engaging in whole group activities. We begin each day by meeting on the large group rug with a song and read-aloud story. We come back several times throughout the day for more singing, dancing, and instructional activities. The rug also serves as the construction zone, which is our area for building with blocks and other construction materials.
Large group time is a crucial portion of our day and the rug serves as a central meeting place for all children and teachers in the class to come together.
Our current rug is busy with letters, numbers, and a lot of pictures and colors which can be too overwhelming and overstimulating for some. It is also very cramped when we have 20 bottoms trying to find their own space to sit. The simplicity and spaciousness of the new rug can help reduce distractions and improve student engagement with activities, other students, and the teachers.
