Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love how curious, thoughtful, and eager my students are to share their ideas. My 32 fourth graders bring different experiences, perspectives, and strengths to our dual-language classroom, and I want every student to feel confident sharing their voice in both languages.

I teach 4th Grade Dual Language ELA and Social Studies at a Title I school, and our classroom projector is currently broken with no plans for repair or replacement.

This makes it difficult for my students to fully access the digital texts, primary sources, maps, images, videos, and other resources we use every day.

The 65-inch SMART Board will allow all of my students to clearly see and actively interact with our lessons. In ELA, students will use our Arts & Letters curriculum to annotate texts, identify evidence, analyze vocabulary, and develop their ideas in both English and Spanish. In Social Studies, they will explore primary sources, maps, historical images, and documents while building their academic language and understanding of history.

Rather than simply watching a lesson, students will be able to come to the board, demonstrate their thinking, collaborate with classmates, and learn from one another. The rolling cart will allow us to position the SMART Board where it is most useful for whole-group lessons, small-group activities, and student presentations.

These resources will give my students reliable access to our curriculum and create more opportunities for them to be active, confident, and collaborative learners.
