My Project

My students are special because of their diverse needs and their unique way of exploring and engaging in the world around them. All of my students have severe nonverbal Autism. They are unique because each one of them bring a special way of learning and communicating within their home and school.

The items listed will help my students be able to regulate their emotions and sensory system so that they can focus on their academic skills such as reading, math and writing and their communication skills, verbal and non verbal.

My students are very bright and are eager to learn about their world. They just learn about our world differently. My students do not communicate in the traditional way, they use visuals (pictures of what they want), gestures and sounds such as squeals, laughter and crying.

The goals of this project are to provide all my students with the ability to regulate their senses such as movement, sight and touch. The use of each of these items, such as the sensory cuddle box, will help regulate their sensory system so they will be able to focus on their communication and academic skills. My students are sensory seekers, which means their bodies crave all sorts of movement in order to make sense of their world. They also crave quiet and calm, which also helps to regulate their emotions.
