Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students come to school excited to learn and eager to explore new topics and activities. They are deeply curious, imaginative and particularly love learning through multi-sensory exploration. The lively environment of a school, filled with activities and noise, can sometimes become overwhelming for some learners. Sensory rooms help students with disabilities find comfort and improve their sensory processing skills.

Our students need a controlled, sensory-focused environment!

This room will be used to help students remain calm and focused while offering them a tranquil space to take a break when feeling overwhelmed.

The weighted blanket will provide calming deep pressure, while the bubble tube will offer visual effects to help calm and relax our students. The repetitive motions of the rocking chair provides relaxing vestibular input to help improve their body awareness. The soothing effect of the rainstick will provide auditory stimulation, and the sensory mats will stimulate their tactile sense and improve their body awareness. The puzzles and coloring pages will provide them with a creative outlet for grounding.

This project contains materials that were carefully and intentionally chosen to meet the unique needs of each student. It is my hope that through this project, I can create an accessible environment and facilitate greater engagement in learning throughout the day.
