Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our Pre-Kindergarten program has a mixture of bilingual, English learners and low-income students. With a total of 24 students in my classroom, there is definitely a mixture of personalities, backgrounds, and abilities. However, they are always eager to learn and challenge themselves in everything they do. They love to play and explore the world around them. They are a fun-loving group of 4-5-year-olds.
I teach at a school that provides free breakfast to all their students and free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
The items I’m requesting will give our center manipulatives a safe home. At the moment we do not have a neat, organized method of storing our center manipulatives. The storage we do have does not provide a safe method for my students to independently take or store the center manipulatives. Dollar store bins hold the manipulatives and are stacked upon each other. The storage unit and accompanying bins will assist my students in developing the skill of independence and choice within the classroom. They will be able to view manipulatives stored in the clear plastic bins and decide what center they would like to participate in themselves; rather than the decision being on the teacher. At the Pre-Kinder level this independence will help them develop their sense of ownership and confidence within the classroom.
