Students learn best through play and that’s just what this project is about. Equipping my classroom with fun and engaging manipulatives that will provide my students with just the type of learning they need. This project will benefit my students in Language Arts, Mathematics, and will help develop their fine motor skills. The alphabet manipulatives will engage students and help them learn the alphabet without the use of worksheets and make learning so much more fun and meaningful. The math manipulatives will be used in a play environment and will help develop their mathematics skills without them even knowing that they are learning. The benefits of play in the PreK classroom have been researched to help the students’ oral language development, sparking their imagination, and developing their high order thinking skills to great levels as opposed to a more structured non-play based instruction. In addition to these great benefits this project will assist my English learners tremendously with experiences they would not have had otherwise.
