My Students
I work in a suburban elementary school that serves around 450 students in grades kindergarten through fifth. Our school is part of a small, tight-knit community with great families and kids.
Nothing gives me more enjoyment than seeing the smiles on my first graders' faces as they learn new things and explore this exciting world.
First grade is full of adventure and growth. In this grade, students make tremendous progress and can transform right before your eyes. Some students enter as non-readers, and leave as readers. Some enter unable to write their letters, and leave writing paragraphs. Some enter unable to tie their shoes, and leave as shoelace masters!
My students are creative, curious, funny, and energetic. Each day is full of possibilities and I strive to inspire my students to love school and become lifelong learners.
My Project
In our first-grade classroom, we meet on the rug multiple times a day for reader's workshop, math, calendar, read alouds, and writer's workshop. The rug is a nice place to come together as a classroom community of learners.
Unfortunately, our current rug in the classroom has not passed the fire code (enforced by the Seekonk FD) and needs to be removed.
This leaves a big, empty gap in our meeting area and forces the students to sit on the hard, tile floor.
Because this meeting area is a place we go multiple times during the day, I want my students to feel as comfortable as possible. It would be great to have a replacement rug that meets the fire-code!
