This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school community is the embodiment of untapped and oft undervalued grit, fortitude, tenacity, and resiliency. The type of qualities that come from a student body that comes from the harshest, most hostile of community and family environments, but also whom possess the characteristics worthy of our school moniker, Brave.
Our students carry with them a spirt of persistence amid struggles with extreme poverty, crime, and violence.
We seek to equip them with the tools and resources they need to be successful.
My Project
Our wonderful students are in need of a safe space to retreat to, away from the chaos, dysfunction, and violence that they experience both at home and at school.
My desire is to create a counseling space that is inviting, inspiring, and relaxing.
This space will help to foster positive relationships amongst peers who seek it out, as well as with the students and the counselor.
Our school has some of the highest rates of serious violent incidents in the city. Offering them a quiet, safe space that offers food and water is motivation for them to come to school and to interact with the counselor.
