This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
As our school year comes to a close, we are reminded of how hard our students have worked throughout the two years we've taught them (in fourth and fifth grade). Our students are creative, goal-oriented, respectful, and zealous to learn. They deserve the fifth grade prom of their dreams!!
This project was designed to create a special day to commemorate the end of our fifth grade year.
Included in the project are items to support the theme of Under the Sea, blending our students' interest in science and our location of Miami. When our students enter the prom, they will walk down a blue carpet into our event space! Seashell-shaped plates will be used to serve snacks and food at the prom. The fairy lights and AA batteries will be used to mimic the bioluminescence of the deep sea. Other decor will support the ambience of the Under the Sea theme. The lights, sand, seashells, and plants will serve as beautiful centerpieces on each table, which some students will be able to take home as a souvenir.
Visitors to our classrooms continually comment on our students' effort, diligence, and growth in core subject areas. We hope that this prom will serve as a reward for the years of hard work that our students have put into their education. When our students enter the prom and see all of the beautiful decorations, they will learn that hard work pays off. With a balloon arch and backdrop for a photo booth, our students will leave the prom with priceless memories of their fifth grade year that we hope they will look back on for years to come. By attending fifth grade prom, our students will gain the grit to overcome obstacles and realize that they will bear fruits from their labor.
