My students need writing supplies to encourage more individual, partner and group writing and sharing. Post it notes, chart paper, pencils, and pens will all help.

In my classroom and school I strive to have a positive impact on the students.
The socioeconomic level at my school is 100% free breakfast, snack, and lunch.
No money changes hands at my school. With that in mind, we cannot ask for school supplies from the families and most children do not even come to school with pencils. And, who doesn't love getting new school supplies?
Our school is one of the few places where these children have an opportunity. We strive to help each child achieve his or her full potential but that can be difficult without needed supplies. This becomes quite a large personal expense for every teacher every year.
My Project
The materials I am requesting are to enhance individual, partner and group writing. My students will be able to express themselves with a word, a phrase, sentences or paragraphs using the pencils, pens, and markers. My vision is to incorporate creative writing activities daily in my classroom.
Using a Post-it, each child can write 1-3 adjectives to describe themselves. We can post them on the classroom easel or doorway. The larger Post-it notes can be used by partners to collaborate and write a summary of a story they read together and then share with the class or another pair of students. The chart paper will be used by groups of 4-6 students at the end of a unit to summarize what they know about a topic. For math, Post-its can be used in many ways: Ex: write an equation or show problem solving strategies.
These are simple ideas but I have so many more.
I am excited to do more writing in more creative ways than just in a notebook. This will get the students so excited about writing. I will be able to take the Common Core standards and make them more relevant and meaningful to my students. This will be a great way to share in reading, writing and math and will make it more fun for my students.
My students are amazing and deserve an amazing school year that is not limited by what they can afford.
