This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students may be young, but they come to school every day eager and excited to learn something new. Their passion for learning is such an inspiration to me, but being that I teach at an inner-city school where breakfast and lunch are provided to every student daily, within a district that consists mainly of students from low socio-economic backgrounds, our funds are stretched. What used to be a five hundred dollar budget for classroom materials has been cut drastically.
I am determined to close the achievement gap and provide my students with everything necessary for them to succeed!
I would love to provide my students with more materials and opportunities for engaging, hands-on and interactive learning experiences, but that becomes difficult with a very small budget for classroom materials.
My Project
Young students are active, visual, and hands-on. They enjoy visually aesthetic materials, and providing students with these is a sure attention grabber. Staff currently only have access to one printer/scanner/copier, which only has black and white functions. we only have one black and white copier/printer. As you can imagine, this makes it difficult to provide my students with visually aesthetic materials for my students.
By contributing to this project, you will be appealing to and engaging the senses of my students, while providing them with the opportunity to make connections to their everyday lives through color.
Color is an essential learning tool and building block for all aspects of life. Although it is significantly important, it tends to be taken for granted. Capturing learning occurring during activities we complete is something we love to do by taking and displaying pictures of this within our classroom and school; however, looking at these pictures in black and white doesn't quite capture the beauty and magic in the same way.
