This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a high need inner city school. We need a place to store our small percussion instruments so that we do not have to put them on the floor.
I have labels for every instrument with the name and a picture of the instrument so that students can learn each proper name. Not only does this help create a functional space, this also helps with the language development of my students. However, I do not have a place to put the instruments. So the labels go on the floor next to the instruments.
I teach in a high need school. Our district is committed to keeping the Fine Arts in our curriculum. However, there are no extra funds to add to our program. Our school community is emphasizing respect and responsibility. We take care of our space and help each other pick up to keep our environment clean. It is difficult to cultivate a clean and functional learning environment if the space is cluttered and there is no place to put the instruments. It is also difficult to have a functional music space if we have to continually move instruments around to do activities.
Please help us create a place for all our small percussion instruments so that we can teach responsibility and respect for our classroom environment and help the language development of our students.
