Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a beautiful group of pre-k students in Providence, RI. They enjoy music, gross motor activities, center play, and being a part of their school community. We do our best to adapt everything we do to meet the unique needs of our students.
I have a very diverse group of learners.
My students are medically fragile with very significant learning needs. My students are all nonverbal and non-ambulatory. Many of my students are visually impaired. I also have students who are deaf and hearing impaired. We use a lot of assistive technology to give our students a voice and access the curriculum with more independence. Preschool is all about learning through play. It is very important to have centers with appropriate material to help the students explore and learn. It would be great to improve the quality of their centers with new resources.
My Project
Art is a very important part of the preschool experience. Students are able to use their imaginations to create pictures and other projects that show their unique ideas and abilities. My students all have physical needs that vary their abilities to use material and create their artwork. A new art shelf will help us store the material in a safe place where the students can attempt to choose their own supplies for their projects. The shelf will also allow the students to see all the different material available for them to use.
