A Picture Plus a Thousand Words!

My students need a new digital camera so that they can write books using their own experiences and add pictures.

My Students

Everyone says, "A picture is worth a thousand words." I say a picture can help a child write a thousand words. I love writing books with my students about their own experiences at school, on the playground or in the neighborhood. Then we take pictures to add to their books as illustrations.

I teach in a high poverty school full of budding readers and writers.

The students I work with are most struggling and we often make books that help them become more proficient by using their own words and life experiences. They love to take photos to add to their stories to make them richer and more meaningful.

My Project

With a digital camera, students will be able to accent their stories with real photographs that will enhance their ownership of their books. These books are read together, in the classroom and shared with their families. By using a camera my students are able to capture a physical image to enhance their stories.

My goal is for my students to become better readers and writers using their own environment and experiences to write wonderful books that can be enjoyed and shared.

By adding photos they become wonderful illustrators as well as writers.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
